Yellow Naped Amazon

(Amazona ochrocephala auropalliata)

Yellow Naped Amazons are large Amazons that make awesome avian companions.   Napes are excellent "talkers" and their vocabularies can be quite extensive.  Singing is also a favorite past time of Yellow Napes.  Out going in nature, they enjoy being the center of attention.  Like all Amazons, Napes love water and frequent baths are in order to keep their feathers in good shape.  A large Amazon sized parrot cage that is well stocked with a variety of parrot toys is suggested.   Amazons can be very long lived and in the right home can literally be the companion of a lifetime.

    SPECIES PROFILE:

Yellow Napes are large, 15 inch Amazons native to Central America and Southern Mexico.   They are green birds with yellow feathers on the nape of the neck.   The amount of yellow coloration can be variable in adults with some Napes having few to no yellow nape feathers.  Young birds will have no yellow coloration to the nape as seen in the pictures above.
