WHITE-BELLIED CAIQUE

(Pionites leucogaster)

    White Bellied Caiques live to play and hand fed birds make excellent pets.   Toys are a must for these active little birds.  They spend lots of time hanging upside down and laying on thier back.  Caiques can be very trusting and can be taught to lay upside down in the palm of your hand.  Caiques are considered by many to be the "ulitmate" small parrot.  The antics of a hand fed Caique are a constant source of amusement.  They are able to mimic a few words and delight in the company of their owners. 

Species Profile:

   White Bellied Caiques are uncommon little birds native to South America that measure around 9 inches in length.  The general plumage coloration is green with the forehead crown and nape orange in color.   Immature White Bellies often have scattered black feathers on the crown and nape.  The belly is creamy white.
