Double Yellow Heads usually become accomplished mimics and many love to sing. Intelligent, stubborn and affectionate, Double Yellow Heads are Amazons to the core and are best in homes with well read and informed owners that are able to set boundaries for these bold and outgoing beauties. They are endearing companions that truly become "one of the family."
A large Amazon sized cage is appropriate to keep your Double Yellow Head happy and content. Toys as well as frequent baths will also add to their well being. Double Yellow Heads can very "food oriented", a proper diet is of extreme importance.
Species Profile:
Double Yellow Heads are native to Coastal Mexico and are quite common in aviculture. They are large parrots measuring 14-15 inches in length. Like all Amazons, the plumage is green in color. The yellow head coloration can vary among individuals and can be extensive in some birds. This coloration extends to the throat, sides and back of the head. The bend of wing is red mixed with yellow. The inner thighs are also yellow.
