BRONZE-WINGED PIONUS

(Pionus chalcopterus)

Bronze Winged Pionus are unusually colored parrots native to South American.   Almost purple in coloration, their true beauty is appreciated in natural sunlight as seen in the pictures above.  Bronze Wings are gentle in nature and make loving, devoted companions.  They can learn to mimic and are quieter than other parrots and can be considered for apartment dwellers.  They adore frequent baths as this helps to keep their plumage in good condition.  A medium sized parrot cage is suitable for Bronze Wings and toys are always a must.  We have found them to be fond of swings.   A healthy diet for a Bronze Wing Pionus would be pelleted based with the addition of fresh fruits and veggies.

Species Profile:

Bronze Wings are small parrots measuring around 11 inches.  They are violet in coloration and have a pronounced bronze patch on the wings.  The throat is a pink color and the eye rings are white to pinkish in coloration.  The bill is horn colored.
